Results of a preliminary investigation of the densities and physical and mechanical properties of individual lunar regolith particles of sizes 0.37-0.9 mm brought back in Luna 24 samples are presented. Densities, determined by the constant-temperature immersion method, are found to range between 3.17-3.26 g/cu cm for the basalt particles, 2.93-3.26 g/cu cm for the gabbros and 2.97-3.06 g/cu cm for the breccias. Particle moduli of longitudinal elasticity, determined on the basis of solid collisions, are observed to vary from 4.0 x 10 to the 10th to 9.2 x 10 to the 10th Pa. Calculations based on correlation dependences indicate heat capacities from 0.74 to 1.04 kJ/kg K and strength limitations from 1200 to 1800 x 10 to the 5th Pa. The results obtained for the microsamples are noted to be comparable to those obtained for lunar rocks and clearly different from those of their terrestrial analogs.
