We report small solubilities (~0.2 wt.%) of CH4 from experiments in
basaltic liquid at 1.5-2.5 GPa. We conclude that CH4 is the principal
dissolved species of C in magma oceans and discuss consequences for C
outgassing to protoatmospheres.
