We propose to measure precise stellar masses of pre-main sequence binary stars by mapping their orbital motion. We request one half-night centered on Taurus using natural-guide star adaptive optics with the NIRC2 camera on the Keck II telescope. With separations as small as ~ 40 milli-arcseconds, we require the high angular resolution provided by the Keck facility. For several of the binaries, we are already determining preliminary orbit fits. The proposed observations will help refine the orbital parameters and dynamical masses. Ultimately, these measurements will provide important empirical data for testing theoretical models of pre-main sequence evolution and understanding the formation of young multiple systems in nearby star- forming regions.
