The physical processes leading to metre-wave and microwave emissions from the solar corona are reviewed and the possibility of observing analogous phenomena on other stars is discussed. Particular emphasis is placed on three alternative processes for the emission from flare stars: cyclotron maser emission, second harmonic plasma emission, and gyro-synchrotron emission.
