Scientific paper

Planar motions of a viscoelastic body in a central Newtonian gravitational field are considered. Elastic oscillations are assumed to become excited along one of the body-fixed axes. The quasistatic motion of the body is investigated. Relative equilibrium positions of the body in a circular orbit are found and their stability is investigated. Eccentricity oscillations of the body in nonresonance and resonance cases are considered.
