The persistence exponent for diffusion equation with random gaussian initial
conditions has been calculated for any dimension $d$. The value of the exponent
in the asymptotic limit for large time comes out to be $d/4$ . The result is at
variance with the generally accepted values of $0.12$,$0.18$ and $0.23$ for
$d=1,2,3$ respectively.
