Calculations were made of the dependence of the energy of precipitating protons on height above sea level and the dependence of the mean energy of a proton and its dispersion at h = 30 km on longitude for the Northern and Southern Hemispheres at L = 2. Ionization losses and proton-nucleus inelastic interactions were taken into account, and a correction is made for the shift of the proton guiding center from the original field line. Attention is given to the feasibility of using high-altitude balloons to study the midlatitude precipitation of protons at energies above 100 MeV.
