We describe the methods being developed and used to provide optical identifications and astrometric and photometric data for X-ray sources detected in the Chandra Multiwavelength Project (ChaMP). We present results for the background X-ray sources detected in three target fields observed by Chandra: the clusters of galaxies MS 1137.5+6625, MS 1621.5+2640 and MS 2053.7-0449. Multi-band CCD data are tied to the International Celestial Reference System and photometrically calibrated via USNO-A2 cross-identifications in the optical datasets for each field. Techniques for crowded-field source separation are discussed. The problems and reliability of identification of off-axis X-ray sources are discussed.
