Standing and propagating vertical magneto-acoustic-gravity waves in compressible atmospheres under constant magnetic fields of arbitrary orientation are investigated analytically. A technique for the exact solution of linear wave equations with exponential or double-power variable coefficients is developed and applied, and the existence of fourth-order hydromagnetic-gravity waves in addition to Alfven waves is demonstrated for oblique fields, with decoupling to second-order acoustic waves for vertical fields and magnetosonic-gravity waves for horizontal fields. Consideration is given to separation or decomposition by cutoff frequencies; the existence and location of critical levels for the exponential-wave speed case; dynamic and magnetic wave components; frequencies and waveforms of reflected modes; wave variables and energy densities; the effects of plasma beta, magnetic-field inclination, and frequency; and the evolution of amplitude and phase with altitude.
