Calcium carbonate is shown to be present in Pacific Ocean sediments
which underly undersaturated waters and, therefore, the presence or
absence of sedimentary carbonates is not simply due to a transition from
supersaturated to undersaturated waters, but is controlled by
rate-limiting factors.
