Deviation of stellar light emission in the neighborhood of the sun's mass is studied through evidence obtained during total eclipses in the period 1919 to 1973. The Einstein and Newtonian treatments of the deviation are reviewed; experimental techniques are discussed. In particular, placement of the sun in the experimental photographic plates and the data reduction method of fictive stars are mentioned.
