An approach to Fourier transform phase recovery which can work for two-element interferometers and does not require a reference star is described. It depends on the fact that, for many small, bounded, realistic sources, the Fourier transform amplitude and phase structure is dominated by the edges. Numerical experiments which illustrate the Fourier amplitude and phase structure associated with realistic sources; produce reconstructions by simple Fourier inversion for sources of varying brightness; simulate degradation in the recovered image due to reference phase errors; and show the consequence of invoking the simplest of a number of more sophisticated image recovery algorithms, phase array relaxation are presented.
