There is growing observational evidence for nonthermal emission from the intra-cluster medium of clusters of galaxies. Some of the more recent evidence comes from observations in the hard X-ray range. These observations will be reviewed and the radiation mechanisms responsible for these will be described. The possible mechanism for the acceleration of particles producing the observed spectra will be discussed with special focus on stochastic acceleration by plasma waves and turbulence.
