We study the propagation character of nonlinear waves obeying the
gravitational field equations generated from Lovelock lagrangian. Wave
propagation under a typical situation induces no shock-like
discontinuity in the metric tensor, hence the terms of higher order in
curvature can avoid the ill-posed initial value problem.
