We investigate the problem of accretion onto compact objects with magnetic fields strong enough to disrupt some or all of the accretion disk and channel the flow directly on the polar caps. This scenario is encountered in a variety of astrophysical environments: T-Tauri stars, magnetic Cataclysmic Variables (mCVs, such as AM Her or DQ Her systems), and neutron stars. We present 1-D radiative fluid dynamics and 2-D semi-relativistic magnetohydrodynamic numerical simulations in order to investigate geometry and stability of the flow and topology of the magnetic field. Our calculations specifically apply to a magnetized white dwarf (Polar or Intermediate Polar), but can be easily generalized to other objects.
