Scientific paper

The paper derives equations describing the behavior of arbitrary nonaxisymmetric magnetic fields in a differentially rotating medium with a magnetic diffusion coefficient that depends only on radius. These equations are used to obtain results that can explain the absence of magnetic fields in certain rapidly rotating stars. Particular attention is given to the magnetic field of Saturn.
