A 9 kV, 300 W power supply developed for a carcinotron backward wave oscillator used in atmospheric physics research is described. The total ripple and noise is less than 4 millivolts peak to peak, with only 0.5 Joules of stored energy. This can be reduced to 400 microvolts peak to peak when higher stored energy is allowed or by the application of feedback voltage to the lower end of the floating high voltage supply which allows modulation up to more than 100 KHz.
