We study the localization of spatial dissipative structures in a nonlinear system formed by a liquid crystal light valve closed in an optical feedback loop. After reviewing the transition from patterns extended across the whole wavefront to localized structures, we investigate how stability and shape of the observed patterns depend on experimental parameters. Interactions between these "dissipative solitons" lead to the formation of several molecule-like bound states, formed by pairs of localized structures. This fact is explored experimentally and justified theoretically.
