This work reports on results of a series of experiments dedicated to studying of plasma jets created by a simple method of matter ablation of multi-layer targets. The collimation and X-ray emission of multi-material jets strongly depend on the atomic number of materials and have been measured with two complementary diagnostics, in the optical and soft X-ray domains. A possibility of multi-material laboratory jet production scaled to astrophysical conditions is demonstrated.
