The Copernicus-500 satellite carried one instrument to measure sporadic solar radio emission and two instruments to measure ionospheric plasma parameters. A radiospectrograph, operating on four frequency ranges: 0.44-1.75, 1.60-3.01, 2.90-4.42 and 4.34-5.96, was used to record solar radio bursts. A low-frequency impedance probe investigated the ion screen formed about metallic bodies in the ionosphere due to the difference between the thermal velocities of electrons and ions. A high-frequency impedance probe measured ionospheric electron concentration in the range 10 to the 3rd to 1.8 x 10 to the 6th/cu cm, ionospheric inhomogeneities with a scale of 0.5 to 100 km and electron concentration fluctuations.
