During July 1972 the three-coincidence telescope of the Prognoz-2 satellite recorded the formation and decay of a belt of energetic electrons (exceeding 20 MeV) with an intensity maximum in the L = 3.7 region. Estimates of the maximum electron fluxes in this belt are presented. It is suggested that the recorded event was caused by the magnetospheric disturbance of June 18, 1972.
