Improved imaging of the NASA IRTF (Infrared Telescope Facility) is being pursued intensely on a number of fronts. We report initial results, direction for the next steps and current/expected performance. Successful engineering and shared risk observations have been made with a tip-tilt secondary and fast loop control system. Near diffraction limited images (at 2.2 microns and longer wavelengths) with effective exposures of minutes have been taken. Telescope optics are being evaluated and alignment errors minimized using this instrument. The system is still under development and with completion of this work we expect this performance to be available to a large user community.
