1E 1740.7-2942, an energetic x-ray source about 50' from the Galactic Center, was first pinpointed in the 1978 Einstein (HEAO 2) galactic plane survey (Hertz & Grindlay 1984, ApJ 278, 137). It is of intense current interest (see, for example, Smith et al. 1996, ApJ 471, 783). This poster will review and summarize the research which has lead to the present view that it is most likely the site of a stellar mass black hole.
