With the completion of the nominal Cassini mission in summer 2008 we have systematically reprocessed the RADAR SAR data, taking into account the new spin state to geometrically align overlapping SAR swaths and terrain height corrections to improve radiometric calibration.
These height corrections give an estimate of terrain height along much of most of the SAR swaths, now covering some 105km of profiles and spanning the full range of Titan latitudes. We present an initial statistical evaluation of these data at this meeting, including preliminary slope statistics and the histogram of elevations (hypsometric profile).
Large-scale slopes, instrumental in fluvial and cryovolcanic transport processes are evaluated - a prominent one in SARtopo is a long north south slope driving the fluvial networks observed in T7. Other measurements (e.g. altimetry, layover and stereo) indicate local terrain excursions up to about 1km (e.g. 1km mountains, 1.3km depth of Sinlap) although in general many regions of Titan are quite flat. The new dataset allows us to say how exceptional or otherwise these are, with implications for both geophysics and future in-situ exploration.
