Laser action on the nu-prime = 0 - nu-double-prime = 22 and nu-prime = 1 - nu-double-prime = 23 transitions of the B 2 Sigma(+) - X 2 Sigma(+) band of Hg(Cl-35) has been observed. Electron-beam excitation of Ar/Xe/Hg/CCl4 or CCl3Br mixtures produced oscillation at 557.62 and 558.35 (plus or - 0.15) nm. The mercury-halide family appears promising as an efficient source of line-tunable stimulated emission in the blue-green region of the spectrum.
