Visual measurements performed by Danjon (1949) of the brightness of Venus are analyzed and it is shown that the magnitude of the planet oscillates with a period of about four days. The amplitude of the oscillations is 0.03 + or - 0.01 m. It is shown that these oscillations can be explained by the global asymmetry of the upper part of the cloud layer. The mean optical depth of the atmosphere on the whole for one hemisphere of the planet is at least 1.5 times that for the opposite hemisphere.
