The Stokes integral formula is usually used to compute geoid heights. However, the complexity of the integral kernel (the Stokes function) leads to a complicated set of formulas for determining the influence of remote zones. It is found that, by using a novel interpretation of the Stokes formula, it is possible to derive simple formulas for calculating the near and remote zone components during the approximation of geoid heights.
