An analysis is made of the response of the solar wind at large distances from the sun and of the response of geomagnetic activity to the character of processes in the near-solar medium. A correlation is found between the localization of the region where the supersonic stream of the solar wind is formed and variations of the effective velocity of the solar wind and the Kp index. Attention is given to the possibility that geomagnetic activity can be predicted by using observations of scintillations caused by the near-solar plasma.
