The Cambridge optical aperture synthesis telescope (COAST) has now been
developed to the point where stellar images with a resolution of 20 mas
can be produced in a routine manner. Based upon our experiences in the
design and commissioning of COAST this paper discusses the possible
design of a next generation interferometer.
