SCUBA-2 is a 10,000 pixel submillimetre camera that is currently undergoing commissioning on the JCMT with its first two science-grade arrays. During the winter of 2009 the first science observations will also be undertaken. In this paper we will describe the latest performance and present some initial observations from the commissioning period. The instrument will be upgraded with further arrays in the early part of 2010, and a comprehensive survey program is scehduled to begin in the spring
