Motivated by the small/large Fermi surface controversy in the cuprates we study the two-dimensional bilayer $t-t^{\prime}-t^{\prime\prime}-J-J_{\perp}$ model at small doping. Magnetic dynamics are driven exclusively by $J$ and $J_{\perp}$. The O(3) quantum critical point (QCP) at $J_{\perp}/J\approx 2.5$ separates the magnetically ordered and the magnetically disordered phases. We demonstrate that in the physically interesting regime there is a magnetically driven Lifshitz point (LP) inside the magnetically disordered phase. At the LP the topology of the hole Fermi surface is changed. We also demonstrate that in the regime when the LP is inside the magnetically disordered phase the hole spin and charge separate when approaching the QCP.
