A computer model is used to calculate the spatial and spectral dispersion of ascending and descending thermal radiation in the spectral region between 3 and 50 microns for nine stratifications of the Martian atmosphere, extending to an altitude of 100 km and characterizing various high-altitude temperature profiles and varying degrees of humidity. The model, based on data from earlier spectral studies, takes into account refraction in the atmosphere and the effect of temperature on the spectral transmission of CO2.
