We developed a package for parameterizing electromagnetic showers in the context of Geant4. The algorithm is based on previous work done for the GFLASH package, but has been adapted to the new simulation context and modified to better reproduce the performance of the LHC calorimeters. The algorithm uses a probability density function (PDF) of the shower profile for electrons/positrons with an energy above 800 MeV. This PDF includes shower shape and energy fluctuations. A mixture of full simulation and fast parameterisation is also possible. This new package, included in Geant 4.7, leads to a significant gain in simulation time for LHC events, with minimal sacrifice of accuracy. This algorithm has been integrated within the ATLAS and CMS simulation framework and compared to full simulation.
