Spiral-wound palladium cathodes were immersed in low-electrical conductivity D2O (with no additional electrolyte) and in 8.2 mM PdCl2, and electrically polarized against a platinum anode. They were examined for heat production using multi-ring thermal spectroscopy with Joule controls. These devices (cathode volume ~0.5 cm3) can yield significant excess heat (peak excess power production 1.5 W, peak electrical power gain of ~2.7). Both optimum operating and peak excess heat production points along the input electrical power axis have been identified.
