The mean star positions observed for an epoch around 1986 with the Carlsberg Automatic Meridian Circle on La Palma and the automatic meridian circle at the Bordeaux Observatory are compared with the positions listed in the Fifth Fundamental Catalog (FK5). Evidence is presented that the FK5 contains systematic errors up to 0.1 arcsec in magnitude.
