Conditions are examined which correspond to the absence of envelope
solitons for fast magnetoacoustic waves in interplanetary plasma, with
allowance made for unstable Alfven waves. An equation for the envelope
of a weakly linear fast magnetoacoustic wave is obtained in the form of
a Schroedinger equation for stable modes of the wave.
