The main feature of the experiment was that the showers were selected using the readings of Cerenkov detectors which are directly relevant to the primary energies of showers, rather than the readings of charged-particle detectors. The authors constructed the integral energy spectrum of cosmic rays in the 1015 - 1016eV energy range.
