Electron impact collision strengths for forbidden and allowed transitions in Al II have been calculated using the R-matrix method. The target states are represented by the sophisticated configuration interaction wavefunctions. The contribution from higher partial waves is obtained in the Coulomb-Born approximation. The effective collision strengths are obtained by integrating the collision strength over a Maxwellian distribution of electron energies. These are tabulated over a wide temperature range (5000-80,000 K) of astrophysical interest.
