The development of the theory of motion of the Galilean satellites is
briefly described. The more than 7700 eclipse observations collected and
reduced, using the Ephemeris E-2, may prove valuable in improving the
ephemerides of the satellites and can yield important information on the
evolution of the Galilean system.
