A more accurate value of the semi-major axis for each of the Galilean satellites is determined. In nonresonant cases, a constant component due to the perturbations can be separated from the observed mean motion, which may be considered the perturbed element, and another component due to resonance must be separated from the observed mean motion in the case of the first three Galilean satellites. The analytical method employed avoids a combination of orders in successive expansions and integrations, and the main terms employed in the calculation of the libration are the great inequalities of the first three satellites. By contrast to the theory of Sampson (1921), where only the inequality of the second satellite is given by two components, each of the present terms is introduced in the development by its eight components.
