We determined the dynamic behavior of the iron-nickel meteorites Gibeon and Canyon Diablo at room temperature as well as 700°C by using a single-stage light-gas gun in combination with a VISAR interferometer up to 22 GPa. Gibeon is a fine octahedrite (Of) IVA meteorite containing about 7.93 wtoctahedrite (Og) IA with 7.10 wtGibeon and Canyon Diablo consist mainly of kamacite, taenite and plessite. The kamacite lamellae have a width of 0.3 mm and 2.5 mm respectively. From the VISAR wave profile the particle velocity, shock velocity, stress, strain and strain rate, phase transition as well as the Hugoniot elastic limit (HEL) and spall behavior was determined and compared to Armco iron. The soft recovered meteorites were investigated by means of optical and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
