Scientific paper

The observation of dust layers and molecular flows surrounding young stars and their implications for the theory of the formation of stars and planetary systems are discussed. Molecular clouds in the Galaxy and high-velocity CO outflows from them which identify the location of young stars are discussed. The dynamics of the outflows are examined, and the results of infrared polarimetric studies of the outflow regions are reviewed, presenting sample maps.
