The Cassini Radio and Plasma Wave Science instrument (RPWS) usually observes the upper-hybrid resonance (UHR) emission inside of ~12 Saturn radii (RS). Near the equatorial plane, inside of ~7 RS, the emission is usually steady, narrow in frequency, and consistent in amplitude. Outside of ~7 RS, the UHR emission is more sporadic in appearance, are broader in frequency, and can vary greatly in amplitude. During a flyby over Rhea's north pole, RPWS detected similar broadened UHR emissions that were generated by an anti-moonward electron beam. If the broad UHR emissions in the middle magnetosphere are similarly generated by electron beams, they may carry field-aligned currents. We perform a statistical study of the strength and distribution of these emissions. We focus on the varying structure of these emissions in the middle magnetosphere and discuss their importance with regard to plasma parameters and as a possible indicator of field-aligned beams.
