The distorted-wave approximation is applied to calculate the dielectronic recombination (DR) cross sections for 2s-2p transitions of the Li-like ions C(3+), B(2+), and O(5+). The results of parallel computations for doubly excited C(3+) 2pnl configurations using pure LS coupling, intermediate coupling (IC), or a configuration-average (CA) coupling approximation are compared in a table, and it is found that LS coupling gives DR cross sections which are 33 percent too low (relative to the IC results) at all but high values of l and n; that CA is accurate at low l and n but too high at intermediate l and n; and that both LS and CA give good results at high l and n. The DR cross sections for all three ions are determined using CA and presented graphically, and the experimental data of Dittner et al. (1983) are shown to confirm that the CA approach is more accurate than the LS method of McLaughlin and Hahn (1983). The implications of the DR mechanism for the capture of continuum electrons in low-density astrophysical and laboratory plasmas are indicated.
