The zone method is extended to gray, absorbing, emitting and linearly-anisotropic scattering media enclosed in an infinite plane layer. The governing radiative transport equation is solved and the integral expressions are discretized under the assumption of uniform temperature within each zone and yield separation of temperature and geometry-dependent expressions. The zone method is applied to radiative equilibrium and to heat transfer by combined conduction and radiation.
