Results are presented from an evaluation of the ion temperature partition coefficient beta-parallel over a range of F region altitudes. The technique for beta-parallel determination involves fitting the variation of the field-parallel ion temperature to simplified forms of a well-known energy balance equation. By introducing modeled and measured parameters, it is found that values of beta-parallel close to those expected for resonant charge exchange collisions are predicted around the F region peak.
