The behavior of the auroral zenith at 21-5 h LT was investigated on the basis of 14 coronal photography series taken in Tiksi Bay during January-April 1973. The zenith was subject to irregular movements during substorms. On the average, zero helicity was observed in the region of the Harang discontinuity. The results obtained indicate that the investigation of auroral-zenith dynamics is an effective way to monitor geomagnetic disturbances and current systems in the ionosphere.
