It is demonstrated that the damping decrement of gravitational waves (GWs) is determined by the spectral correlation function of the energy-momentum tensor of the medium. This result is used to calculate the GW damping decrement in a homogeneous isotropic plasma in different frequency ranges. Attention is given to a GW dissipation mechanism through decay into a longitudinal Langmuir wave and a transverse electromagnetic wave. An analysis is made of GW damping in a magnetoplasma with wave propagation along the magnetic field.
