A method of estimating coronal magnetic field strengths above active regions by means of fiber bursts appearing as a special fine structure in solar type-4 radio bursts is presented. The fiber bursts are considered as the radio signature of loss-cone instability driven whistler waves of a narrow frequency band. Numerical calculations indicate that narrow band whistlers are excited near the critical loss-cone angle. Thus, the frequency of the whistlers can be deduced. Then the magnetic field strength in the source region can be estimated by the fiber burst data adopting a coronal density model. The results are consistent with previous estimations.
