Empirical statistical models of convective electric fields are constructed as a function of the magnetic activity index, Kp, using more than three years of observations of the F2 region between 61 and 73 degrees invariant latitude for 24-hr runs. It is found, in particular, that (1) the potential drop from dawn to dusk increases with magnetic activity, (2) the statistical evening and morning plasma convection cells have a roughly symmetric shape, and (3) the potential pattern is rotated relative to the noon-midnight meridian toward earlier local times, and the amount of rotation increases with Kp.
